How to do it

Set up

  1. Hold the handles with the palms facing each other and the arms straight in front of the chest.
  2. Walk the feet forward and lean back until the body forms one straight line.

Do the rep

  1. Keep the arms straight and open them out to the sides until the body forms a T.
  2. Bring the arms back together in front of the chest under control.

What counts as a rep

A rep counts when the arms reach a T at shoulder height with the elbows almost straight and then return in front of the chest.

One rep starts with straight arms in front of the chest, opens the arms to a T at shoulder height, and ends after a controlled return.

Breathing

Exhale as the arms open; inhale as they return.

Cues

  • Keep the elbows almost straight.
  • Squeeze the shoulder blades together.
  • Walk the feet forward for a steeper angle when the reps get easy.

Common mistakes

  • Bending the elbows

What you seeThe elbows bend and the movement turns into a row.

FixUse a more upright angle and keep the arms long.

Long arms keep the work on the rear shoulders.

  • Hips sag

What you seeThe hips drop below the line from the shoulders to the heels.

FixSqueeze the glutes and use a more upright body angle.

A straight body keeps the work in the upper body instead of the hips.

Stop the set if

  • Stop if you feel sharp pain.
  • Stop if the anchor moves or a strap slips.
  • End the set when you cannot meet the stated range under control.
