How to do it

Set up

  1. Hold the handles with the palms facing down.
  2. Walk the feet forward and lean back with straight arms at shoulder height until the body forms one straight line.

Do the rep

  1. Pull the handles toward the forehead while the elbows move out and back.
  2. Lower to straight arms under control with the body in one line.

What counts as a rep

A rep counts when the hands reach face height with the elbows back and the arms return to straight.

One rep starts in a straight-arm lean, brings the hands to face height with the elbows back, and ends after a controlled return to straight arms.

Breathing

Exhale as the hands reach the face; inhale as you lower.

Cues

  • Pull toward the face.
  • Lead with the elbows.
  • Walk the feet forward for a steeper angle when the reps get easy.

Common mistakes

  • Pulling toward the chest

What you seeThe hands finish below shoulder height.

FixAim the hands at the forehead and keep the elbows high.

Pulling to face height keeps the work on the rear shoulders and upper back.

  • Hips sag

What you seeThe hips drop below the line from the shoulders to the heels.

FixSqueeze the glutes and use a more upright body angle.

A straight body keeps the work in the upper body instead of the hips.

Stop the set if

  • Stop if you feel sharp pain.
  • Stop if the anchor moves or a strap slips.
  • End the set when you cannot meet the stated range under control.
