How to do it
Set up
- Lie on your back with the heels on sliders or in socks near the hips.
- Lift the hips into a bridge.
Do the rep
- Keep the hips up and slide the heels away until the legs are nearly straight.
- Pull the heels back toward the hips with the backs of the thighs.
What counts as a rep
A rep counts when the heels slide out and back with the hips up the whole time.
One rep starts in a bridge with the heels near the hips, slides the heels out until the legs are nearly straight, and pulls them back with the hips up.
Breathing
Inhale as the heels slide out; exhale as you pull them back.
Cues
- Keep the hips high.
- Slide the heels out slowly.
- Slide out more slowly when the reps get easy.
Common mistakes
Dropping the hips
What you seeThe hips sink toward the floor as the heels slide out.
FixSlide out less far and keep the glutes tight.
High hips keep the load on the hamstrings.
Fast slide out
What you seeThe heels shoot away and the legs lock straight.
FixControl the slide out at a steady speed.
The slow phase protects the hamstrings.
Stop the set if
- Stop if you feel sharp pain.
- Stop if you feel a cramp or a sudden pull in the back of the thigh.
- End the set when you cannot keep the hips up.
