How to do it
Set up
- Hold both handles together in one hand, or use the single-handle mode of the trainer.
- Walk the feet forward and lean back with a straight arm until the body forms one straight line.
Do the rep
- Pull the chest up to the hand without turning the torso.
- Lower to a straight arm under control, finish the set, then change sides.
What counts as a rep
A rep counts when the hand reaches the side of the chest without the torso turning and the arm returns to straight.
One rep starts in a straight-arm lean, brings the hand to the side of the chest without turning the torso, and ends after a controlled return to a straight arm.
Breathing
Exhale as you pull up; inhale as you lower.
Cues
- Keep the chest facing the anchor.
- Keep the body in one line.
- Walk the feet forward for a steeper angle when the reps get easy.
Common mistakes
Turning the torso
What you seeThe free shoulder drops away from the anchor during the pull.
FixUse a more upright angle and keep both shoulders square.
The twist resistance is part of the exercise and protects the lower back.
Hips sag
What you seeThe hips drop below the line from the shoulders to the heels.
FixSqueeze the glutes and use a more upright body angle.
A straight body keeps the work in the upper body instead of the hips.
Stop the set if
- Stop if you feel sharp pain.
- Stop if the anchor moves or a strap slips.
- End the set when you cannot meet the stated range under control.
