How to do it
Set up
- Place both hands on a stable raised surface and walk your feet back into a straight body line.
Do the rep
- Bend your elbows and lower your chest toward the support.
- Press the support away until your arms are straight.
What counts as a rep
A rep counts when the chest touches the raised support and the arms return to lockout with the body straight.
One rep starts at locked arms, touches the chest to the raised support, and ends at locked arms with the body straight.
Breathing
Breathe in as the chest lowers; exhale as you press away.
Cues
- Body stays long
- Chest moves to support
- Press evenly
Common mistakes
Hips sagging
What you seeThe hips drop below the line from shoulders to heels.
FixBrace your trunk and move the body as one unit.
A straight body line keeps the raised press load distributed as intended.
Stopping above the support
What you seeThe chest reverses before touching the raised surface.
FixLower the chest to the support on every rep.
Touching the support and returning to lockout defines the full range.
Stop the set if
- Stop if you feel sharp pain.
- Stop if the raised support shifts or the hips cannot stay aligned.
- End the set when you cannot meet the stated range under control.
