How to do it
Set up
- Place the bar across the front of your shoulders and lift your elbows.
- Stand with feet about shoulder-width and keep the whole foot on the floor.
Do the rep
- Brace and sit down between your feet while keeping the elbows lifted.
- Drive through the whole foot and return to a full stand.
What counts as a rep
A rep counts when the hip crease drops below the top of the knee and you return to a full stand.
One rep starts standing, lowers until the hip crease is below the top of the knee, and ends with hips and knees fully extended.
Breathing
Breathe in and brace before the descent; exhale after you stand.
Cues
- Keep the elbows high.
- Sit between the feet.
- Drive through the whole foot.

What you seeThe heels lose contact near the bottom.
FixUse a stable stance and keep pressure across the whole foot.
Whole-foot pressure supports balance through the squat.
Stop the set if
- Stop if you feel sharp pain.
- Stop if the bar rolls forward or the elbows cannot stay lifted.
