How to do it
Set up
- Set the cable or band near face height and hold it with both hands.
- Step back until there is tension and stand with the arms extended.
Do the rep
- Pull toward your face while the elbows move out and back.
- Return to straight arms under control without losing your stance.
What counts as a rep
A rep counts when the hands reach face height with the elbows back and the arms return to straight.
One rep starts with straight arms, brings the hands to face height with elbows back, and ends after a controlled return to straight arms.
Breathing
Exhale as the hands reach the face; inhale as the arms extend.
Cues
- Pull toward the face.
- Lead with the elbows.
- Keep the ribs down.
Common mistakes
Pulling toward the chest
What you seeThe hands finish below shoulder height.
FixSet the anchor near face height and pull toward eye level.
Pulling to face height preserves the intended upper-back and shoulder path.
Leaning backward
What you seeThe torso moves away from the anchor during the pull.
FixUse less resistance and keep the body still.
A fixed torso keeps resistance in the pull instead of body movement.
Stop the set if
- Stop if you feel sharp pain.
- Stop if the anchor shifts or the resistance pulls you off balance.
- End the set when you cannot meet the stated range under control.
