How to do it

Set up

  1. Stand with the feet about shoulder-width apart.
  2. Hold one dumbbell in each hand at your sides with the arms straight.

Do the rep

  1. Bend the knees and hips and lower until the hip crease is below the knees.
  2. Push through the whole foot and return to a full stand.

What counts as a rep

A rep counts when the hip crease drops below the knees and you return to a full stand with the dumbbells in place.

Breathing

Breathe in and brace before the descent; exhale as you stand.

Cues

  • Knees follow the toes.
  • Keep both dumbbells beside the legs.

Common mistakes

  • Knees falling inward

FixPush the knees out so they stay over the toes.

Stop the set if

  • Stop if you feel sharp pain.
  • Stop if you cannot hold the dumbbells in place.
  • End the set when you cannot reach the required depth under control.
