How to do it
Set up
- Set both pulleys evenly and take one handle in each hand.
- Step forward, brace, and hold the arms open with a soft elbow bend.
Do the rep
- Sweep both hands forward until they meet in front of the chest.
- Open the arms under control until you return to the start.
What counts as a rep
A rep counts when the hands meet at chest height and the upper arms return in line with the torso.
One rep starts with the upper arms in line with the torso, brings the hands together at chest height, and ends with the upper arms back in line with the torso.
Breathing
Exhale as the hands meet; inhale as the arms open.
Cues
- Keep a soft elbow bend.
- Bring the hands together.
- Keep the torso still.
Common mistakes
Turning the fly into a press
What you seeThe elbows bend more as the hands move forward.
FixKeep the elbow angle nearly unchanged.
A stable elbow angle keeps the movement a fly instead of a press.
Torso moves forward
What you seeThe body leans or steps to finish the rep.
FixUse less load and hold the stance still.
A fixed stance keeps both cables loading the chest evenly.
Stop the set if
- Stop if you feel sharp pain.
- Stop if the cable pulls you out of your stance or the arms cannot return evenly.
- End the set when you cannot meet the stated range under control.
