Breathing
Exhale as you lift; inhale as you lower.
Cues

- Keep the legs still.
- Return before you change arms.
Common mistakes
Leaning to one side
What you seeThe trunk shifts sideways as one arm presses.
FixUse less load and keep both sides of the waist long.
A steady trunk keeps the load over the base of support.
Stop the set if
- Stop if you feel sharp pain.
- Stop if you cannot control the dumbbell overhead or keep the torso upright.
- End the set when you cannot meet the stated rep standard under control.
